主要内容为：铁路客运服务过程中涉外服务常用英语听、说、读、写、译五项基本知识和技能训练，以及有关天气对客运的影响、紧急避险与自救等内容，并包括各种特殊旅客服务、个案的涉外纠纷处理等，都是编者在课程实训、现场教学中积累的真实案例，很有特色和价值

为大力贯彻国家发展职业教育、培养高素质技能型人才的精神，顺应高等职业教育英语课程改革方向，在深入了解铁路企业用人需求、客运涉外服务工作以及多年校企合作基础上，我们精心编写了铁路客运英语综合教程这本教材。力图秉承“工学结合，能力为本”的职业教育理念，通过基于工作过程的英语听、说、读、写、译基本应用训练，在帮助学生打好语言基础的同时，重点提高听说、读写综合应用能力，特别是实际工作中的英语交流能力，突出高职英语教学的实用性、职业性和实践性，使学生学有所得，学有所用。
本书以铁路客运工作的典型工作过程为基础内容，在铁路客运工作典型情境中呈现英语交流任务，根据任务需求学习英语词句知识、设计训练项目。本书的10个单元各自对应一个典型客运工作情境，包含听力和口语、阅读、写作和翻译、综合技能训练4个部分。每个单元均可从多个训练角度发挥作用。编写过程中考虑铁路客运工作的广泛性和复杂性，在语音、口语中包容英式、美式两种风格，在选文和会话中涵盖铁路客运服务规程、设施设备说明等多方面内容，涉及旅客服务各种新情况、新规定，通过旅途故事丰富学习内容和形式，通过创编练习拓展学习空间，通过综合技能训练体现知识技能的融会贯通。
本书各单元内容既相对独立又相互关联，循序渐进，适合作为轨道交通类专业公共英语基础课教材以及铁道类专业的专业基础课教材，也可作为铁路行业职业技能培训教材以及铁路企业管理人员和技术人员的参考用书。
本书由魏宏、周际担任主编，邢怡红、夏广晴担任副主编，李喜莲、王娜、恂及、宫琳、刘映辉参与了本书的编写。其中魏宏负责全书结构和体例的设计、统稿精编，周际、邢怡红负责编写1~10单元读写部分，夏广晴负责编写1~10单元听、说部分，王娜、李喜莲编写1~10单元导入和综合技能训练项目，宫琳、刘映辉编写1~10单元词汇部分与全部习题，恂及编写参考译文和答案。编写过程中得到北京交通大学、中国铁道出版社和原北京铁路局、哈尔滨铁路局大力支持，在此表示感谢。
