本书共6章，计16个单元，每个单元由3篇课文组成，每篇课文包括词汇、课文注释、练习等环节，每个单元最后还包括供学生课外练习的材料。全书主要介绍了发动机、底盘、车身、电器设备四大部分的结构与原理，具体内容包括汽车基本结构、内燃机基本结构、曲柄连杆机构、配气机构、冷却系统、润滑系统、燃油供给系统、点火系统、起动系、传动系统、自动变速器、悬架及转向系统、制动系统、车身结构、电源系统、仪表板及指示灯、空调系统、ITS、GPS、安全气囊等。最后还简要介绍了故障自诊断以及检测诊断设备等内容。本书内容安排合理、条理清晰，符合高职教育要求和岗位工作需要，适合作为高职汽车检测与维修等相关专业的汽车专业英语教学使用，也可作为相关行业岗位培训或自学用书，同时可供汽车维修人员学习参考。
